Mobile gameplay recording platform Kamcord has secured $7.1 million in Series A funding in a round led by TransLink Capital. The round included participation from existing investors including Innovation Works and XG Ventures, and was joined by Japanese investors DeNA, KLab and M&Y Growth Partners. This funding will be used to further the develop of Kamcord’s mobile gameplay recording technology and standalone video viewing app.
The Kamcord SDK supports both iOS and Android, and allows users to share their best gameplay moments with others. These videos help drive installs via word of mouth, and also provide content for the standalone Kamcord video viewing app.
Using the app, viewers can watch a “staff picks” feed of the best gaming videos recorded with Kamcord, watch walkthroughs for high scores on a variety of games, and more. The app will be updated with new features going forward, including user profiles and the ability to like and add comments to videos. In addition, a search functionality will improve searching for specific games and videos.
The Kamcord platform sees one video shared every two seconds, with over 1 million videos shared in the last month. Over three billion videos have been recorded since Kamcord debuted in 2012.
“We want to connect the world’s mobile gamers through video,” said Matt Zitzmann, Co-founder and CEO of Kamcord. “In order to build a truly global platform for sharing and watching gameplay videos, we prioritized strengthening our presence in Asia. The partnerships we’ve formed with this round of funding will help us tremendously in that effort.”
More information on the Kamcord SDK is available on the company’s website. Check back soon to follow the company’s video viewing app on AppData, our tracking platform for mobile and social apps and developers.
